Education Campus Master Plan

Columbus, IN

Introduction

The goal of this project is to prepare a Master Plan for the approximately 115 acres known as the Education and life Sciences Campus at the Columbus Municipal Airport Complex. The plan will address the campus’s need for post secondary education facilities, including Indiana University Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC), Ivy Tech Community College and the Purdue College of Technology, as well as necessary student housing and prospective related business and commercial uses adjacent to the study area.

The Master Plan will focus on the following objectives:

  • To build upon the successes of the previous collaborative efforts of all the institutions involved in the Airport Complex and set a path for these groups to continue to work together into the future.
  • To encourage the organized and systematic development of the area making the best and most efficient use of the resources available and aid in the responsible investment in necessary improvements.
  • To recognize that form and aesthetics play an important role in the recruitment of students and the perceived strength and validity of post secondary institutions.
  • To seek opportunities to integrate green infrastructure and practices into development throughout the area that encourage conscientious development and support the long term growth plans of the institutions and overall economic viability.
  • To the future benefit of both, consider a strong link between the Tech Park and the academic campus.
  • To consider appropriate amenities and quality of life provisions for the area that are beneficial to the Airport Complex, the post secondary institutions and adjacent neighborhoods.
